Forestry Commission England is the Government Department responsible for protecting, expanding and improving the sustainable management of woodlands and increasing their value to society and the environment. FCE works to enable others to get involved in the sustainable management of woodlands. FCE has strong relationships with woodland owners through their English Woodland Grant Scheme. FCE is also working to build the market for woodfuel through the Woodfuel Implementation Plan. This will lead to a stronger market pull to encourage woodland owners to manage their woodlands. Regular sustainable woodland management helps improve the biodiversity of the woodland habitat. Forestry Commission England has been involved in a number of other woodfuel initiatives such as Woodheat Solutions and the Kent Downs Woodfuel Pathfinder, and the TIMBER project in the Chilterns.
